The Lion is not in its “winter”…
A group of “concerned citizens” have been meeting to discuss the Glazer family’s financial dealings concerning Manchester United. Well, now this group of “concerned citizens” have called on Sir Alex Ferguson to quit in protest of these “financial dealings” to make a statement to the Glazer family.
Ok, are these people nuts? First of all, if you’re having some kind of secret meetings to discuss the financial dealings of a Soccer club you’re out of your mind. Second, if you’re meeting to discuss the financial dealings of a Soccer club you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about and most likely need to find a better use for your time. Third, if any of these people are taxpayers they would be better off having secret meetings over government spending.
Fourth, asking a legend like Alex Ferguson to resign from, essentially, the only place he knows just to “make a statement” might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. You might as well rip Fergie’s heart out of his chest. He doesn’t want to leave United anymore than any of us would leave a paycheck on the table or leave our kids on the side of the road. It just makes no sense whatsoever!
Let’s say that United has some financial issues. Ok, but this isn’t Portsmouth. Portsmouth is being financially levied by one VERY rich family because they have no REAL way to just “print money”. We have a family friend who’s REALLY into Premier League soccer and when I asked him about Pompey he said they wouldn’t fold because they’re “an institution”. Well, if Pompey is an “institution” then so is Manchester United. Everybody in the WORLD knows who Man U is. Heck, most people don’t even know what sport they play, but they know United exists.
If we had to take a collection to support a “financially strapped” ManU club the whole world could raise billions of dollars because Soccer is the world’s most popular sport.
So, why have meetings as “concerned citizens” yet you have no idea what’s really going on? Because you have nothing better to do. I suppose these fans known as the “Manchester United Supporters’ Trust” COULD be doing something worse like committing crimes, but honestly…this is pretty bad. Get a life. Immediately!
