Where Have Manchester City’s Stars Gone?

by Brian Hall on November 16, 2009

It was a tough October for the stars of Manchester City.  The squad that started out the year with one of the hottest starts of any Premier League squad has slowed down their goal scoring pace over the last four matches and achieved four straight draws.  In only one of the matches did the Blues even reach double digit goals, but at least it was against one of the tougher defenses this season in Burnley.

Manchester City’s biggest problem though is that the big transfer players they signed in the off-season are not regularly finding the back of the net like they were early in the season.  The first few weeks of the season Emmanuel Adebayor could not be stopped.  He scored in his first few minutes as a Manchester City player and notched four goals in about the same number of matches.  But perhaps it was his controversial goal against Arsenal that has done the star player in?

Since that memorable goal on September 12th Adebayor has not scored another goal in any league match.  Following his suspension Adebayor has been away from the back of the net and has not scored in four straight league matches.  Maybe that was why he made such a big deal out of the crucial goal against his former team.  Because he knew that he might not score again for over two months?

Tevez is not doing any better this season and he doesn’t have a suspension to blame for his lack of production.  Tevez only has two goals so far this season and his last score came in September as well.  Tevez actually has gone five matches without a goal now and the Blues continue to sink down the league table.

With Liverpool and Chelsea coming up on the schedule, pretty soon someone needs to step up for the reeling squad.
