What The Heck Is Wrong With Liverpool

by Patton Hunnicutt

The Reds of Liverpool showed great promise early in the season going on a 6 match winning streak after dropping their first match to Tottenham.  Then, over the last 4 matches…they’ve lost 3.  Liverpool was so UPthat I considered doing a long interest piece on the team, then I got distracted with all the other mayhem and foolishness going on in the Premier League and now I look up and they’ve lost 3 of 4 matches.  They’re hemorrhaging points like crazy.  {Even if they had drawn one of these last 3 losses that would still be enough to jump another spot on the Premier League table…}

If you follow the League at all you know that Rafa Benitez is under IMMENSE pressure to turn the ship around and he probably felt pretty good after the first couple weeks of the season.  Now, not so much.  Everywhere you turn there’s some story about how he’s a total failure and they need to find a new boss.

Listen, Rafa isn’t the problem.  You can’t immediately turn to management when the players are not playing up to your standards.  Boo the players.  They’re making insane amounts of money and should be held accountable (especially if you paid your hard earned money to go see them or even wasted your time to watch them on TV.)

You could say the coaching stinks, but a coach can only make account for injuries so many times and now we see that more injuries are coming.  Steven Gerrard may need surgery (that could end his season) and 3 other players will miss the squad’s Champion’s League match against Olympique Lyon.  How is a Manager supposed to account for that?  I know Soccer is a possession game, but if you have no one who you REALLY count on to possess the ball then the other team will possess it all day long.

Do I have a solution for the problems in Liverpool?  Yeah, stop it!

Stop being so fragile!

Liverpool is a proud club that needs to calm down.  They can get it together and rise in the ranks IF they relax and play like they know how (like they did on that 6 match win streak.)  Come on Reds…you can do this!
