Tottenham Takes Over Fourth Place, But Not For Long

Well it appears that this season will only be a three horse race in the Premier League.  Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal lead the pack for now and it doesn’t look like any other club will give the giants a run for their money this season.  But the race for fourth place just might end up being closer then the fight for the Premiership title this season.  And Tottenham was granted some good news last weekend as Man City and Liverpool battled to a 0-0 draw.  The Spurs took advantage of the situation and climbed into fourth place with a 3-0 victory over Wigan

The bad news for the club though is that their current position will likely not last until the end of the season.

The transfer of Robbie Keane to Celtic was the beginning of this negative trend.  Keane has scored three goals in his last five matches for Celtic and that is some offense that the Spurs certainly will miss down the stretch.  Also recent news that Aaron Lennon suffered a setback for his return from injury will not make matters any better for the fourth place club.  But the biggest reason why the Spurs will fold by season’s end has nothing to do with any single player.

Tottenham is renowned for choking at the end of the year and despite the club’s competitive nature they will likely fold once again.  With matches coming up against Everton and Manchester City (away BTW), the Spurs will likely drop a few points and that just can’t happen this season.  There are too many clubs nipping at their heels and earning the fourth seed will be a tight race.  Pavlyuchenko’s form last weekend was a ray of hope for the squad, but Tottenham needs more consistency if they want to be a Champions League club next year.
