The Cameroon National Football Team is the most successful squad in the history of African football. They are also the worst dressed as they have sported sleeveless jerseys and one-piece kits in the past. Despite their lack of fashion sense, I think they will be a difficult team for opponents to deal with at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Cameroon has qualified for five World Cups (1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002) and were the first African side to reach the quarterfinals (1990) where they lost to England in extra time. They have also clinched four African Cups and they picked up the Gold Medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. They narrowly missed out on the ‘06 Cup though.
German coach Otto Pfister has some of the world’s most talented players on his roster. In addition to Cameroon all-time leading scorer Samuel Eto’o (Barcelona), the team features Geremi (Newcastle United), Jean Makoun (Lyonnais), Alexandre Song (Arsenal), Modeste M’Bami (Marseille) and Idriss Carlos Kameni (Espanyol).
FIFA thinks Cameroon is the 14th best team in the world, but I am putting them a little higher due to their recent success (2nd at 2008 African Cup). Though they have not advanced past the first round since 1990, they have some of the best goal scorers in the world, so I believe they deserve the ranking of #12 best team in the entire world.
