The Pick: When I hear the name Vieira, I don’t think about a lady by the name of Meredith. Nope, as a lover of the beautiful game (which is not Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), I think of Patrick Vieira. Vieira is as well known for his fiery temper as he is for his stellar play in midfield, which is a shame because he deserves more praise. After all, he won six titles in the last decade, two with Arsenal, three with Inter, and one (which was revoked) with Juventus.
The Flick: Patrick doesn’t hog the spotlight, he just flat out wins titles. Even as he has gotten older, his trademark stamina has not faded. If not for his tendency to blow his top, he would be way higher up this list. So, which actor can play Pat? Well, it would have to be someone who is usually a strong role player, but not the star, in several award winning films. It would also have to be someone who loses their cool pretty easily. Um, I’m going with Joe Pesci.
The Limerick: OK, there is no way Pesci could play Vieira. Well, unless DeVito plays Zidane:
When France won the ’98 Cup, Vieira had the final assist,
More than a decade later, he’s still hard for managers to resist,
But now I just feel pity,
When I see him with Man City,
Because to me he’ll always be the Gunner with the iron fist.
