The Pick: Well, I had to have one Mexican player in my Top 100, and I decided to go with Hugo over Blanco. Hugo played in three World Cups for El Tri, and he notched almost 30 goals in his 75 career caps. His pro career was also stellar, featuring two Primera titles with UNAM and five La Liga titles with Real Madrid. His managerial career has been decent, but his time on the pitch was brilliant and certainly makes him deserving of a spot in my Top 100.
The Flick: Hugo is a legend in Mexico not only for his ability as a striker, but also for the ridiculous hair he sported when he played. It wasn’t a fro on par with that of Valderrama’s (but whose really is?), but it was still a pretty sweet man mane. Who could bring him to life on the big screen? Well, if he would be willing to grow the Chia-dome, I think Adrien Brody could nail the part. The man is a talented actor, and I think he could capture Hugo’s charisma.
The Limerick: Hugo, this little limerick has been crafted just for you, so enjoy:
Once a man named Hugo was born in squalor in Mexico City,
He achieved soccer fame though, so his life you should not pity,
In La Liga, he rose to great heights,
And he never backed down from any fights,
So he is certainly a deserving recipient of this little ditty.
