Anyone who knows me is aware I am a big fan of Joe-Max Moore. He’s one of the most prolific scorers in US MNT history, and his lengthy professional career saw him play in MLS, Germany and, of course, the Premier League. In three seasons and over fifty appearances with Everton (1999-2002), Moore scored eight goals.
He was one of the few American players in England at the time and he would represent our nation well. Ironically, he was a member of the New England Revolution at the time Everton gained his services and reports say they paid only a paltry $50K to MLS for him. He would go on to make big bucks abroad and clear the way for future US stars.
After a blistering start to his EPL career (5 goals in 5 games), Moore’s form began to suffer as injuries hampered his effectiveness. By 2002, Everton was sick of Moore’s perpetual injuries and tired of the US constantly pulling him away for national team duty. As a result, he and the team mutually decided to part ways.
Moore tried to return to MLS after his stint in England’s top flight ended, but years of hard tackles had taken a toll on his body and he truly was never the same player he had been in his prime. Despite the fact his career ended prematurely, Moore should be remembered for his brilliant nose for the net, so he is #9 on this list.
