Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie are likely not the hugging pair anymore. Last weekend Adebayor showed the world that he is in fact a “mindless and malicious” player as his former teammate van Persie pointed out. And Adebayor likely deserves a severe ban for his unprofessional actions.
Adebayor would spoil his strong start to the 09 campaign by behaving like a villain in the Sylvester Stallone boxing franchise, Rocky. Adebayor not only threatened the health of a former Gunner’s teammate (van Persie) when he stomped on the forward’s head in a very questionable red card worthy tactic, but the forward also displayed great animousity for his former club’s fans by taunting them as well.
When Adebayor put the late header into the corner of the goal, he ran the full length of the pitch in order to mock one small section of the Manchester City stadium filled with red apparel. You would think the newly acquired forward would want to celebrate with the majority home crowd which was cheering for the player? Or even with his own teammates which brilliantly set up the goal opportunity in the first place? But Adebayor decided to treat himself to, as we call it here in the states, a T.O. touchdown celebration in which the only star was who other then Adebayor.
I have no problem with player’s celebrating their goals in whatever fashion they seem fit. Just only when they don’t cause riots with their arrogant actions. I am sure many Gunner’s fans were screaming terrible things at Mr. Adebayor all day. But that is part of the job description of a millionaire athlete.
Let your actions on the pitch speak for who you are.
And in your case Mr. Adebayor, your actions tell me that you could use a little bit of time off to think about what you did.
