Do they really want to fly this banner with Rafa at the healm?
With general sentiment in Italy being that Juventus manager Ciro Ferrara is about to get the axe word has surfaced that the Italians may want to draw Rafa Benitez away from Anfield to come to Italy.
I’m not sure what the motivation behind wanting Benitez is. We know that Juve is disappointed with their performance in the Champion’s League and underperformance for even 5 seconds can get you fired as a manager in European Soccer.
However, why would you go to the Premier League to get one of THEIR underperforming coaches?
Rafa isn’t exactly singing a “good tune” in Liverpool and I have even slammed him here on my column about his lack of coaching ability. Remember when he said he’d walk if Torres were sold from Liverpool? Yeah, he admitted he wasn’t a very good coach.
Now, another high-profile team wants to give him a chance to whine and compain about the talent level of his club? I don’t get it.
I could understand if Liverpool was doing ok and Rafa was just a little discontented with the club, but it’s bad in Liverpool right now. Juventus is the kind of club that needs big names and a gigantic marquee announcing its presence and I don’t think that Rafa fills out the marquee.
In other sports we would call Rafa a “re-tread”. Just some coach who failed somewhere who got another shot somewhere else and will probably not fiar much better in his new home. I can’t say that Rafa will fail in Italy, but I don’t have high hopes.
Plus, if I were Ciro Ferrara I would be pretty insulted that I was being fired for someone who is sucking as bad as Rafa is right now. Talk about a slap in the face!
I hope everyone gets what they want…but I don’t think it will be bigger numbers in the “win” column…
