PLTO Premier League Tuesday Review

by Brian Hall on November 3, 2009

Arsenal handed Tottenham Hotspur a critical 3-0 loss in our PLTO Match of the Week.  The win keeps Arsenal in third place and they remain right in the mix despite being back four points because they have played one less game.  The Spurs, on the other hand, drop back to fifth place with the loss.  Portsmouth vs Wigan was a surprise for one yank because the team that never wins won.  Go figure.  But where did all this offense come from?  Portsmouth wins 4-0, but remain in last place.  But at least there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Chelsea has illuminated audiences all season long and they continued to do so last weekend over Bolton with an impressive 4-0 win.  Even more impressive four different players scored in the match for the Blues.  Everton-Aston Villa was another match that promised to be good and it was.  Everton was able to please the home crowd with a 1-1 draw against the top eight squad.  After a rough start to the year Everton continues the slow climb with a critical point here.

Fulham shocked many football critics with their treatment towards the Liverpool Reds.  The Reds could not beat two strong opponents two straight weeks and dropped this one to Clint Dempsey & Company 3-1.  New boys Burnley continued to make a name for themselves through playing tough defense.  The squad won over struggling Hull City 2-0.  The Tigers have only won three out of their last thirty.  Ouch!

As for the rest of the matches: Stoke and the Wolves tied 2-2, Sunderland and West Ham also achieved a 2-2 draw, Manchester United easily defeated Blackburn 2-0, and in the final match of the week Birmingham City salvaged a point against Manchester City 0-0.
