PLTO Premier League Tuesday Review

by The Yank

Now that the stadiums have all cleared out lets take a look at last week’s results.

Burnley continued their magical season of 2009 with another impressive win over Sunderland.  David Nugent (no relation to Ted) scored two of the club’s goals leading the club to the 3-1 win.  Arsenal impressed once again with a ridiculous offensive output beating Wigan 4-0 including two Vermaelen goals.  Aston Villa was able to handle Portsmouth 2-0.  Portsmouth remains at the bottom of the league’s bracket.

The Bolton Wanderers were able to shake off some early boos from the home crowd and received a draw against Stoke City thanks to a second half goal from Matthew Taylor on a penalty.  The match ended 1-1.  Hull City is beginning to slip losing this week to new boys Birmingham.  The final in that one was 1-0.  Liverpool edged out West Ham 3-2 on the road in one of the best matches of the weekend.  Torres would score twice to assure the Reds a victory.

It would remain a great week for new boys (all three new squads won) as the Wolverhampton Wanderers were able to fend off the Fulham attack and win 2-1.  With a decisive win the Wolves need to make their move right now.  Everton has already begun their climb to the top of the table with a 3-0 victory over Blackburn.  Louis Saha was the Man of the Match with a two goal performance.  Chelsea also would remain perfect this season cruising to a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

And in the PLTO Match of the Week, Manchester United would edge out Manchester City in a match that showcased amazing goals and mental breakdowns on defense.  4-3 was the final in the Red Devils favor thanks to a 90th minute extra time goal from Owen.  The goal will be debated due to it’s late arriving nature all season long, but Owen just made his signing worth every penny by putting home the winner.
