PLTO Premier League Top Performers

Didier Drogba

Is Drogba the Premier League’s best forward?  One Yank is becoming a believer of this theory.  Lets face it.  When Drogba is in Chelsea’s lineup at full health the team is nearly unbeatable.  Arsenal discovered this fact last weekend as the giant scored two goals to put the Blues that much further from the Gunners.  The first goal was outstanding as Drogba vollied the cross off of the woodwork and into the corner of the net.  After Thomas Vermaelen scored nearly the exact same way off of his knee (but for the wrong team), Drogba did what great players do and finished off the top four squad with another goal late in the competition.

Wayne Rooney

A Top Performers favorite, Rooney achieved a hat trick over the weekend in a match that would be considered an obvious mismatch between Man U and Portsmouth.  The English national star scored one goal on a penalty in the first half and capped off the 4-1 victory with two consecutive goals in the second half.  Rooney has ten goals now on the season and seems to be a shoe-in for at least twenty by the year’s finish.

Wigan Athletic

Wigan had one of the worst weeks in football history a week ago when Tottenham Hotspur scored a ridiculous nine goals on the squad.  Eight of those goals came in the second half as well.  This most recent week would be a different tale for the squad though.  The defense held the Sunderland offense to zero shots on target and without an own goal that means the squad achieved a shutout.
