1) John Terry- Chelsea

He has his Chelsea club fighting for the title and it never hurts to have a figure like Terry in the middle of the defense.  With an explosive offense, Terry makes the Blues chances of winning the Premiership that much better.  The same goes for the Champions League too.  After all Terry won UEFA Defender of the Year for his efforts in last year’s tournament and this year it looks like the squad might be even stronger.  Terry deserves the top honor on any list of defenders despite the problems he has had with his personal life recently.

2) Nemanja Vidic- Man U

Vidic has only started in two league matches this season in which the Red Devils have lost, so that alone should give you a good idea of how important the twenty eight year old has become to his club.  Vidic missed the Chelsea battle that his side lost 1-0, but next time I would bet on Vidic being on the pitch for that one .

3) Richard Dunne- Aston Villa

Big Richard Dunne has yet to miss a match this season and his Villa club has possessed among the best defenses in the league this season and the transfer player deserves some of the credit.  The Irishman has had his fair share of clashes with club management before, but so far this year for Villa he has to be considered one of the best transfers of the year.  Dunne was likely not pleased with the way his international year finished up, but the newly acquired center-back should be all smiles considering his excellent year with Villa.

4) Graham Alexander- Burnley

Alexander is proving that the old folks still can get it done.  Not only does the vet play for the league’s most surprising defense, but Alexander also lead his club in goals scored by the end of the first half.  Very impressive considering most critics thought the newboys would be near the relegation zone right now.  But Alexander and Company have some plans of their own.
