N’Gog…Takes…a Dive…

by Patton Hunnicutt on November 11, 2009

So, the “story” that David N’gog took a dive against Birmingham to win a crucial penalty is funny to me because it isn’t really a story at all.  Of course, it is in Birmingham where everyone is ga-ga over the “cheating” of Mr. N’Gog and those disgusting footballers from Liverpool.  I wonder if the fans in Birmingham are as honest as they want Liverpool and N’Gog to be.

Now, I didn’t see the play and I have no idea how bad it looked, but let’s stick with something everyone knows:  Soccer players fake it ALL THE TIME.  If it were up to me we’d give the Oscars, Tonys, and Emmys to Soccer players because they’re WAY better actors than some of the people currently appearing on TV at $1 million an episode.

We watch it in every match.  Homeboy comes in for a slide tackle, totally misses, and the player (who has passed the ball by now) falls down, grabs his shin, and pulls his leg into his body.hurt soccer player

I’ve always found this funny for two reasons:

1.  If you just got kicked in the shin you have shinguards on you dummy!  And if you were kicked so hard that the force of the blow went through your shinguards the hit would have been so violent that EVERYONE ON EARTH would have known it was a penalty.

2.  If you just got violented kicked in the shin and it hurts…why would you grab the one area of your body that hurts while you lay on the ground?  Wouldn’t you be afraid to touch it because it already hurts so bad?

In this particular situation it’s also amusing that N’Gog’s agent said something like “he wouldn’t try to con the ref.”  Are you kidding me?  EVERYONE tries to con the refs in EVERY match.  It’s a neverending story with Soccer players.  Do these people really think we’re that stupid?

Fans of Birmingham…if this were one of your players would you be decrying their act as unsportsmanlike and chanting in protest “We don’t cheat in Birmingham!”

NO.  You would wipe your brow and say “Whew, we got away with one there.”

Next time, keep it real…will you?
