Often it is perceived that owning a record is a good thing. In fact insane people from all over the world attempt bizarre acts every day just to claim exactly this. But being a record holder isn’t always what it is cracked up to be. Imagine holding the record for being struck by lightning the most times. Not a good record to hold.
Well Manchester City is now the owner of a record, but just like the lightning guy they likely won’t go around telling everyone about it. The record is the Premier League’s most consecutive draws and the number is seven. If a tie really was like kissing your sister then Manchester City would be the Ritchie Tenenbaum of the Premier League. Whatever the club does it ends in a tie.
It could be worse. Manchester City could own the record for fewest points earned in a season or most consecutive losses, but seven straight draws should be at least considered an act that one should frown upon . In fact the Blues are reaching that point of the year where the big four squads are beginning to pull away and the big money the club spent seems to have made little difference in the league table for the Blues.
The few big names the squad brought in this off-season haven’t lived up to the hype and going into this weekend the Blues were 14 points back from first place Chelsea. The club still has a chance to make the Champions League next year, but it seems as if the tide has shifted on the Blues and they will likely end the year out of the mix.
