I think Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin has the potential of becoming one of best players in the Premier League. The problem right now though is that the Russian missile launcher is out of position when he is in the featured role of forward for the club. With Van Persie out along with Bendtner long term and Eduardo consistently getting knicked up as well, Arshavin is often filling in as the finisher of the squad and he should really remain out on that wing where he can cross the ball and fire lasers into the net from outside of the box. In other words Arshavin is playing an unfamilar role and his results are suffering the consequences.
Often moving up an outstanding winger can have its perks. For example Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo don’t mind playing the striker position, but Arshavin has been very cold this season especially since the loss of Van Persie in the role of the featured striker. Arshavin has only scored one goal in his last thirteen appearances (mostly as a striker). That is not only disappointing, it is troubling for Arsenal’s hopes of remaining in the top four by the end of the season.
The club did pull off an impressive 1-0 victory this mid-week against Liverpool, but the club needs to score more goals if they want to remain a Champions League contender. I realize that they lead the league in the statistic, but that trend will likely change unless Fabregas can hold the offense together. Because right now Arsenal is hurting in the striker department and Arshavin should remain on the wing where he is the most productive.
