It appears that Everton is close to signing Landon Donovan to get him on a 3-month loan. As soon as I read this I had many questions. Many, many questions.
1. Is Landon Donovan really going to be able to help a club that is as pathetic as Everton right now?
No. Everton is showing us that their “way” isn’t working and now they want to bring in a guy who needed David Beckham so his team could LOSE the MLS Final to what amounted to an expansion team? I don’t get it. I know Landon is a good player and all that, but has anyone else noticed that USSoccer is thinking of adding Robbie Findley to their roster? (Do you think that’s because he made Donovan look like a kindergartener?)
2. Does this say something about how the Galaxy feel about Donovan?
For me…yes. You don’t loan the “Player of the Decade” to a crap English squad unless you kinda don’t care anymore. I think L.A. is totally over it. (And they’re kicking themselves for trading Robbie Findley.)
3. Can he hang in the Premier League?
Yes. He isn’t a bad player, he’s just not the transformational figure that everyone wants him to be. Everton would be better off getting Clint Dempsey on a loan.
4. If you’re a fan of USSoccer are you pleased with this?
NO! Everyone who wants to see USSoccer do well at the 2010 World Cup needs to be signing a petition to keep this deal from happening. It’s already bad enough that Tim Howard plays for the Everton Craps, but now putting Donovan on this squad is just going to tire him out (and he’s already older to begin with.) When he looks like he’s out gas at the World Cup I’ll feel obligated to say “I told you so!”
5. Finally, if you’re an Everton fan aren’t you angry with the Everton brass for making this deal?
Yes. They could have had anybody and they chose Landon Donovan… The guy whose team lost to an expansion team (basically) in the MLS Cup Final? Yeah…that’s what they picked.

wow, u really don’t have a clue about the mls. 1.) real salt lake was loaded with above average mls player. 3 through 8 on rsl were better quality than anyone else except beckham and donovan. I would even go further and say there were 3 or 4 players on rsl that had better seasons in mls in beckham 2.) donovan carried LA, beckham had one exceptional performance and the rest of his mls games were above average mls at BEST 3.) LA is not allowing donovan to go on loan. LA is looking to resign donovan for an extention – it is donovan pushing for transfer so he can stay fit and LA trying to oblige their superstar 4.) mls set up is a total train wreck for some of us Americans, its what we got to call a domestic league- rsl under achieved all year long and if the reffing wasn’t so LA tainted – they may have not even made the playoffs-
