Chelsea Wins The EPL–Now What?

by Patton Hunnicutt on May 10, 2010

Drogba FanChelsea blew out Wigan 8-0 (after Wigan said they could do something “historic”–yeah right.)

The win clinched the EPL Title for the Blues after both United and Chelsea won on their final day.  This gave Chelsea their first title in 4 years and snapped United’s title streak at 3.

With United in 2nd, Arsenal in 3rd and Tottenham in 4th e now have the English line-up for the 2010-2011 Champion’s League and it looks like we’re going to have a loaded Champion’s League AND a loaded World Cup.  With Chelsea winning the EPL and their players having to play with United players one would think that the competitive fires would be burning extra bright.

This would keep Fabio Capello’s English on its toes (and near the brink of collapse) the whole World Cup, but being on the brink of collapse actually isn’t a bad place to be.

If you’re playing so hard and so intensely that no one knows if you’ll make it through the day then you’re really doing something right.  It would be like playing the match against a dude with an itchy trigger finger.  You never who or what you’re going to get.

This will cause scares in England, but it will work!

With Tottenham stepping back into the Champion’s League after coming out of nowhere about halfway through the season I think we’re going to see a new era of dominance in the EPL.  Chelsea, United, Arsenal, and the Spurs.  If you look at those 4 teams and look at the rest there really is little comparison.

Sure, City has potential and so does Liverpool, but they just don’t look as good as their arch competitors.  I’d be interested to see the promoted squads come in and do a number on the EPL, but fighting to get into the top 4 looks like a lost cause these days.
