Finally, Chelsea found their “hand” and used it to great effect in their 1-0 win over Manchester United yesterday. The match was a rough and tumble affair that featured very little in the way of scoring opportunities for either squad but did feature virtual girth of tension and upheaval at Stamford Bridge.
After a pretty contentious match Chelsea was awarded a free kick that ManU Manager Alex Ferguson deemed “absolutely ridiculous” after the match. Unfortunately, that “absolutely ridiculous” call led to the game-winning goal.
Now, this isn’t like the NFL (American Football) where Tom Brady literally gets to play by his own rules and cheats on a consistent basis as a result of being allowed to play by his own rules. No, this may have been a bad call, but whether it was or wasn’t the boys from Chelsea exhibited enough “hand” that they could pull out the match…plain and simple.
It seems to me that the constant argumentative nature of Sir Alex is good and bad for his club. Yes, they won the Final last year, but at what cost? How long can he go on like this before all the guys in the locker room say “This old bat has lost his friggin’ mind!”? I’m just saying…
In related news, Arsenal is now in 2nd on the Premier League Table after Manchester United’s loss andboth clubs are now tied at 25 points. With Chelsea out at 30 points the gap is not so big that it cannot be closed, but we’re getting close to that point. We know that leads can turn aroundat any second in the Premier League, but if the teams who know that they cannot win it all this early start to slip they CAN lose it all this early. That’s a sobering reality for a Manchester United squad who is in the process of hemorrhaging points.
