Busy Bruce Gets His Man

by John Brandon on August 31, 2010

Rewind to July 2 and Asamoah Gyan scored three goals in four games in the World Cup. Winning a standing ovation in his sides match against Serbia. In the quarter final against Uruguay he then stepped up and fluffed a chance to write himself and Ghana in to record books as the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi final.

Many men would have hidden, simply sulked, felt sorry for themselves and seeked refuge in the warmth and comfort of his sides dressing room. Not Gyan he continued to battle on and took his sides first penalty in the shoot out and cooly slotted home in to the top corner to put his country a step closer to history. Obviously it didn’t happen but Gyan was making people stand up and take notice of his undoubted potential.

by Damian Cooper on August 28, 2010

But who really knows what has gone on behind the scenes, and whether there was very much at all in the pages and pages of copy and the hours of live sports news and chat.

Chelsea Sell Carvalho To Real Madrid

by David Wilson on August 10, 2010

Real Madrid have signed defender Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea, the English Premier League champions announced on their web site.

“Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho. The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms. Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career.”

The transfer is not a surprise after the 32-year-old Carvalho told Spanish sports daily last month that it would be “a dream” for him to be reunited with Mourinho at the Bernabeu.

Man City sign Aleksandar Kolarov

by David Wilson on July 24, 2010

Manchester City have completed the signing of Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov after agreeing an £14.1 million deal.

Roberto Mancini spoke to the Man City’s web site regradging the new signing, and confirmed that Kolarov’s arrival doesn’t mean that Wayne Bridge will be leaving Eastlands:“I want two top class players for each position,”

Mancini became aware of Kolarov’s ability when he managed Inter Milan in Seria A. The Italian revealed he had been admirer of the Serbian even back then:

Liverpool Sign Joe Cole

by David Wilson on July 19, 2010

Joe Cole LiverpoolIn what has to be considered a mild surprise, Joe Cole signed today with Liverpool on a four-year deal believed to be worth nearly £90,000 a week.

I had expected Cole to sign for Arsenal or Spurs so that he could stay in London but the chance to play every week at Liverpool looks to be the deciding factor in the deal.

Signing Joe Cole is a huge win for Liverpool’s new boss Roy Hodgson. Not only was he able too convince Cole to turn down accept Europa League football instead of Champions League football, but he  can now go back to Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, and show them that Liverpool can still compete for quality signings.

Manchester City really do live in a different financial world than any other Premier League team. According to the News of the World, Man City have made made Yaya Toure the highest earning Premier League player in history.

City finally completed the deal with Barcelona last week for Toure, after both clubs agreed on a transfer fee of around £24 million. On top of that, City signed Toure to a five-year-deal worth a staggering £55.6m.

So Yaya Toure, a defensive midfield player, will cost Manchester City £79.6million over the next five seasons!

David Silva Heading To Manchester City

by David on June 24, 2010

According to reports in England and Spain, Valencia star David Silva has agreed terms with Manchester City on a four-year deal setting up his transfer to the Premier League club for a reported €35 million.

Chelsea were reported to have made a last minute pitch for the Spanish star, but Man City boss Roberto Mancini was able to close the deal and convince Silva that Manchester was the best destination.

This is a huge signing for Man City, especially are they are only in the Europa League next season and not the Champions League. The signing shows that Europe’s best talent is taking another look at City.

Yaya Toure Heading to Manchester City

by David on June 16, 2010

Yaya ToureWe will know within the next 48 hours whether Yaya Toure is a Manchester City player.

Barcelona were hoping to use Toure in a deal with Arsenal for Cesc Fabregas, but with a £25million offer on the table from Man City, it is looking more and more likely that they will accept City’s offer.

Toure’s agent Dimitri Selguk has met with Barca technical director Txiki Begiristain and said:

“Within a couple of days I hope we have a solution, but before that I must speak to the player. I think Barcelona would prefer this option (City) because they are the ones who are offering the most money.”

Is Yossi Benayoun Joining Chelsea?

by David on June 15, 2010

Liverpool FC midfielder shirts: Yossi Benayoun, Javier Mascherano and Steven GerrardChelsea are close to a £6.5million deal with Liverpool for midfielder Yossi Benayoun according to Sportsmail.

Liverpool are reported to have received a £7.5m offer from CSKA Moscow for the 30-year-old Israeli international, but Benayoun would prefer to stay in the Premier League and join Chelsea.

Reports are that Benayoun has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea on a four year contract worth £70,000 a week.

Chelsea have recently let go of midfielders Michael Ballack and Joe Cole, freeing up the opportunity for Benayoun.

In looking at the picture on the left, there is a very good chance that Benayoun, Mascerano and Gerrard will all be wearing different jersey’s next season.
