Liverpool got their challenge for a Champions League place back on track with a deserved 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
With Fernando Torres injured, Dirk Kuyt took over the goal scoring duties for Liverpool, scoring in the sixth minute and then wrapping things up with a penalty in stoppage time.
The result moves Liverpool up to sixth, just a point behind Spurs, who remain fourth.
This was one of Liverpool’s better performances this season and the score could have been much higher as both Kuyt and Sotirios Kyrgiakos both missed great chances to finish off Spurs early in the game. Read more... (209 words, 3 images, estimated 50 secs reading time)

With Chelsea “accepting” a draw with Fulham and ManU getting blasted by West Ham I have 3 questions to ask (and yes, this goes back to the “picking the wrong team to crumble thing”.)
1. What does it say about the 2 best teams in the Premier League that they took a draw to a team that is pretty close to being relegated and losing (badly) to a team that will most likely be relegated? Read more... (387 words, 4 images, estimated 1:33 mins reading time)

There’s something about a 3-0 win for Fulham over Manchester United that just rubs me the wrong way. Long ago I predicted that Real Madrid would be the “Super Club” to fall apart at the seams (and though I’m still waiting for that prediction to come true) I’m starting to wonder if I chose the wrong club. ManU is right there with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table and they just gave away points to a team that really shouldn’t even be on the same field as them. Fulham is only 10 points away from being relegated and now they beat the defending Champions 3-0? Read more... (389 words, 4 images, estimated 1:33 mins reading time)
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has suffered “potentially life-changing injuries” in a motorbike accident in east London, police said.
He was taken to hospital after his BMW bike was involved in a collision with a car this morning. Cudicini is reported to have fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described by the London Ambulance Service as possibly life-changing and was taken to an east London hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

So how bad was the Juande Ramos and Damien Comolli regime at Spurs? Well it took almost £150m on new players in the 16 months to undo the damage down by Ramos and Comolli.
Spurs spent £119.3m in the year ending June 2009, with another £29.4m invested since on the likes of Peter Crouch, Sebastien Bassong and Niko Kranjcar. The almost £150m spent on new players is more than Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal spent in the same period. The only Premier League team that spent more than Spurs in this transfer period was Manchester City. Read more... (303 words, 3 images, estimated 1:13 mins reading time)
Ok, so Chelsea scored 5 goals today in a shutout of Blackburn, and Tottenham lost to Stoke City. Plus, Aston Villa drew with Wolverhampton. I don’t get it…
This is the kind of league that should be easy to peg. Honestly. How hard is it for Chelsea to pick a direction? If they beat Blackburn 5-0 how come they can’t beat Aston Villa or Liverpool (other teams that aren’t as good as them)? What if you look at Tottenham? They come out of nowhere to stand at 3rd on the Premier League table and they lost to a so-so Stoke City team? Aston Villa puts themselves in very good position (tied with Man City for 5th on the table) but they draw with a, ugh, bad Wolverhampton squad. Read more... I have to admit that some of the transfer fees this summer have made me shake my head more than once. But the valuations of Peter Crouch and Darren Bent are totally baffling.
Spurs are interested in buying Peter Crouch from Portsmouth for a reported £9million. I know that there is a fire-sale going on at Pompey this summer but £9million for a former England center-forward who scored 16 goals in 34 games for his country and a Premiership strike rate of one goal in under every 3 games seems very cheap. Manchester United overcame Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes to win the League Cup for the third time and remain on course for a clean sweep of silverware at home and abroad.
Neither side fashioned many chances of note at Wembley Stadium although Aaron Lennon tested United goalkeeper Ben Foster midway through the second half and Cristiano Ronaldo rattled the Tottenham woodwork in added time. United looked the more likely to find a winner in the additional 30 minutes but it was not to be and so to penalties, where Foster saved Tottenham’s first spot-kick from Jamie O’Hara. Both teams then converted their subsequent penalties before Ronaldo scored and David Bentley placed his attempt wide, leaving Anderson to fire past Heurelho Gomes and deny the Londoners the chance to reclaim the trophy they won 12 months ago. United’s success means the team which finishes sixth in the Premier League will qualify for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League. Read more... (167 words, 3 images, estimated 40 secs reading time)

In spite of their historic records, Tottenham is now struggling to stay afloat in the Prem. Read more... (267 words, 2 images, estimated 1:04 mins reading time)
Lew Wolff, owner of Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes, is fond of talking. Sometimes he says things though that I find to be truly unbelievable and possibly insane. Let me explain…
Wolff is a real estate magnate and the owner of MLB’s Oakland Athletics. He also used to own the St. Louis Blues of the NHL and the Golden State Warriors of the NBA. Most really, really rich people collect cars or houses. Wolff is so rich he collects sports teams. He makes the really, really rich people feel poor. That must be nice. Read more...
