With a Chelsea loss and a United win we have Chelsea with 77 points and United with 76 points. Now United has a chance–they are close and they need to keep closing. United has a chance to get closer with a slightly easier schedule than normal coming up–with the exception of Tottenham.
I think somehow they’re going to make this interesting because it seems that Chelsea is floundering at the wrong time and United is surging at the right time. With John Terry “off” again we all have to now wonder if I was wrong and all of Terry‘s off-field troubles were too much for him and he simply can’t get it back together. Read more... Well, the Manchester Derby is on Saturday and it’s conceivable that United could have a hard time, but I don’t think that this is going to be the reason.
I love how international soccer players–especially ones in the EPL–miss the point SO consistently. Adam Johnson of Man City is running his yap about Fergie letting Carlos Tevez go to the City club:
“What Carlos has done this season is to prove everybody wrong. He has had his critics but when it comes down to it, football is about winning and Carlos is a winner. Probably looking at his situation now, any team would regret selling a player of his quality.” Read more... (363 words, 2 images, estimated 1:27 mins reading time)

“At this moment of our season, nobody can make us lose our concentration or determination to win the title, only we can do this. I think it’s impossible that can happen. We have worked all season to be in the situation we’re in now. I hope Alex is correct but I don’t think so as every game is difficult to play.”
“Maybe you can say it will be easy but I haven’t played an easy game this season. No, it’s mind games, Ferguson is clever. But I don’t think that works, I’ve never done them. On paper, we are favourites against Bolton. But only on paper. It’s normal that Chelsea will win in theory but we need to achieve this. Read more... This Fergie is WAY more interesting.
Just a note–while I am in the “media” I don’t consider myself a serious journalist or a part of the “press”. The “press” seems so much more serious than me and I’m just not “hardcore” like that. So, I’m not taking this personally–I’m just saying.
Fergie says:
“It is hard to understand the press. Someone told me that coming back from the Champions League final in Rome last year they were all delighted on the press bus that we lost. They were absolutely pleased that we lost; the English press.” Read more... (390 words, 2 images, estimated 1:34 mins reading time)

Didier Drogba is on the bench. The match is in the 18th minute as I type and Chelsea NEEDS to get something together to combat United–who sits atop the EPL table.
Now, Joe Cole has scored in the 20th minute and Chelsea needs to hold together their fragile momentum. It’s something very unique to sit so VERY close to your nearest opponent in the standings AND have to play them in that situation.
It’s also quite the problem that Didier Drogba sits on the bench because of injury and Chelsea is banking on momentum from a 7-0 beatdown of Aston Villa. Sure, you scored 7 goals–which is nearly impossible–but that doesn’t everything is well. ALL teams will have a bad day and you got Aston Villa’s in that 7-0 win. Read more... Stars need to be sitting more.
United and Chelsea will tangle on Saturday in a derby that will prove formidable for one team and crushing for the other. With United 1 point up on Chelsea they need all the help they can get and there is no help in sight.
Wayne Rooney is out a couple weeks and United have to find a way to beat Chelsea on Saturday. I just don’t see that happening.
Here’s the thing–this all started when I BLASTED Fabio Capello for not trusting the fact that Wayne Rooney was hurt outside of a friendly with Egypt. Now, I’m beginning to think that all English Soccer Managers are equally stupid. Let’s keep it real. Read more... (270 words, 2 images, estimated 1:05 mins reading time)

There have been rumblings for several months now that Manchester United will once again tour the U.S. this summer. Soccer By Ives and Sports Business Journal both report that Manchester United are close to agreeing to a four game summer North American tour.
During the tour United would headline the MLS All-Star Game at Houston’s Reliant Stadium which will be played either July 29 or Aug. 5 according to the Houston Chronicle.
Because the deal is not complete, a person with knowledge of the talks confirmed the negotiations only on condition of anonymity. Read more... (283 words, 1 image, estimated 1:08 mins reading time)

Nani has been rewarded for a good season in redemption of his original deal that brought him to Old Trafford in 2007. His new contract will keep him with United through 2014 and will likely give him the chance to finish his career with United.
What does this say about ManU? For me it says 3 things:
1. They know they can do just as well in-house as they can do on the open-market.
2. They chased and landed someone who WANTS to be at Manchester United–not someone who wants to be in Manchester for the money.
3. They are smarter enough to know what’s hot and what’s not. Read more... (269 words, 2 images, estimated 1:05 mins reading time)

Sitting is a good plan for Wayne right now.
This is what I was talking about when I was blasting Fabio Capello for relying on a scan to see if Wayne Rooney could have played England’s friendly with Egypt a few weeks back. THIS is why you ask the player how they feel, then you work them out, then you ask an outside Doctor and THEN you decide who plays and who doesn’t.
Rooney limped off the pitch on Sunday after United defeated Liverpool at Old Trafford. It appears that he has an inflamed tendon and he’ll have to sit for United’s upcoming match with Bolton on Saturday. Read more... (311 words, 2 images, estimated 1:15 mins reading time)

Chelsea’s terrible week continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Blackburn and drop to 4 points behind Manchester United, although Chelsea have a game in hand.
Didier Drogba‘s 22nd Premier League goal of the season had given Chelsea an early lead but for large parts of the game Blackburn defended well, led by the outstanding Christopher Samba, while 18-year-old debutant Phil Jones did not look out of place alongside him.
El-Hadji Diouf punished the Londoners for failing to take their chances in the first half with a superb header to pull Rovers level 20 minutes from time. Read more... (289 words, 1 image, estimated 1:09 mins reading time)
