It was not a good weekend for Manchester City and Manchester United fans as both clubs lost to MLS teams on Sunday.
Let me repeat that. Both Manchester teams lost to teams from the Major Soccer League in America.
Man City’s 2-1 loss to Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls was their second pre-season loss in New York and the pressure already has to be mounting on City boss Roberto Mancini. This has been a summer where City have spent about £100m on the likes of Jerome Boateng (Hamburg, £10m), David Silva (Valencia, £24m), Yaya Toure (Barcelona, £24m) and Aleksandar Kolarov (Lazio, £17m). Is Roberto Mancini leaving any players for the rest of the Premier League teams? After his busy Summer in the transfer market, he now has a squad of 38. Nearly 40 players that he has to keep happy this season. Surely that is an impossibility. People have said in the past that football cannot buy you success and felt like their words had been belittled by Chelsea’s resurgence. But Chelsea didn’t buy success, they bought the players, and instilled a manager that gave them success. In fact, they earned their success. Read more... Manchester City have completed the signing of Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov after agreeing an £14.1 million deal.
Roberto Mancini spoke to the Man City’s web site regradging the new signing, and confirmed that Kolarov’s arrival doesn’t mean that Wayne Bridge will be leaving Eastlands:“I want two top class players for each position,”
Mancini became aware of Kolarov’s ability when he managed Inter Milan in Seria A. The Italian revealed he had been admirer of the Serbian even back then: Read more... (212 words, 1 image, estimated 51 secs reading time)

Many Manchester City fans feel that this is the season that they will will win their first trophy in over 34 years.
With a squad that has been overhauled to the tune of £250million in the last two years, demand is high amongst football fans to see Roberto Mancini’s team.
As a result of all this interest, City have announced that they are on the verge of selling all 36,000 season tickets for this upcoming season.
Last season City were the third best supported team in the country behind Manchester United and Arsenal as they averaged just over 45,000 at Eastlands. With a capacity of just under 48,000 there is a very good possibility that every City home game will be sold out this year. Read more... (165 words, 2 images, estimated 40 secs reading time)

After a desperately disappointing World Cup exit at the weekend, the question is where do England go now?
The whole tournament showed England to be an over hyped mediocre side set up in a way by Capello that below average sides were able to simply raise their game and get a result against them.
People have actually forgotten that before this tournament England actually failed to qualify for Euro 2008, with exactly the same squad as the current campaign. So it’s the same squad, just four years older, or as Capello whinged in his press conference, ‘four years more tired’. Read more... (486 words, estimated 1:57 mins reading time)

According to reports in England and Spain, Valencia star David Silva has agreed terms with Manchester City on a four-year deal setting up his transfer to the Premier League club for a reported €35 million.
Chelsea were reported to have made a last minute pitch for the Spanish star, but Man City boss Roberto Mancini was able to close the deal and convince Silva that Manchester was the best destination.

We will know within the next 48 hours whether Yaya Toure is a Manchester City player.
Barcelona were hoping to use Toure in a deal with Arsenal for Cesc Fabregas, but with a £25million offer on the table from Man City, it is looking more and more likely that they will accept City’s offer.
Toure’s agent Dimitri Selguk has met with Barca technical director Txiki Begiristain and said:
“Within a couple of days I hope we have a solution, but before that I must speak to the player. I think Barcelona would prefer this option (City) because they are the ones who are offering the most money.” Read more... (205 words, 1 image, estimated 49 secs reading time)
Tottenham qualified for the Champions League for the first time, beating Manchester City 1-0 Wednesday night.
Peter Crouch was the goal scoring hero for Spurs as he reacted first to a save from Man City goalkeeper Marton Fulop to nod the ball into the net.
“For a club like us to break into the top four is a fantastic achievement— it’s probably one of the best nights I’ve been part of,” Crouch said. “I was in the right place at the right time. The keeper made a good save and I was in the right place just to nod it home.” Read more... (283 words, 1 image, estimated 1:08 mins reading time)

This is an interesting point of view on an EPL player from an EPL coach that isn’t even his own discussing another coach who didn’t sign said player. I’m really starting to love the honesty in the ranks of Europeans Soccer coaches and everytime I see more of it I just get all jittery and excited at what they’re going to say!
On one hand it’s funny to hear coaches talking about a very good and useful Striker who has brought just about everything you could ask for to Manchester City. Though City hasn’t had the best season Tevez has played very well, so that makes these comments even more hilarious. Read more... (302 words, 2 images, estimated 1:12 mins reading time)
