As the transfer window continues to creep closer many disgruntled players are beginning to air their dirty laundry. One of these upset players is thirty-one year old Benni McCarthy of the Blackburn Rovers. McCarthy really can’t be blamed either. The vet who has been with the squad since 2006 has been allowed only one start all season and Blackburn continues to struggle to seek positive results. McCarthy, though, will likely not be around to help turn things around in January.
Here is what Benni’s agent Rob Moore had to say about Mr. McCarthy’s future with the club at kickoff.com:
Yes, Benni wants to leave Blackburn. He has not been given the chance to show his worth this season in the Premiership and there’s no denying that it seems like he is not the type of player Sam Allardyce is looking for. This has been a bad season at Blackburn for both Elrio and Benni – neither seem to be the kind of player that fits into the Blackburn system and both need to move on in January.
Elrio refers to Elrio van Heerden who has seen action only once this season in a Carling Cup match. The two spurned men are South Africa natives and both have a chance of getting minutes this summer in the World Cup, but not likely in the Premier League. McCarthy actually holds the record for most international goals by a South African player.
There is no word yet on where Benni will jet, but the key player that scored 18 goals in the 2006/2007 season will look to join his sixth professional team in his career come January.
