Arsenal Missing Another Big Gun

by The Yank

Robin van Persie suffered one of the Premier League’s most significant injuries over last weekend in his friendly match with the Netherlands verses Italy.  The star forward of Arsenal went down in the twelfth minute and was taken off on a stretcher due to a serious ankle injury.  Apparently van Persie has suffered a torn ligament in the ankle and he claims that he will only miss a little bit over a month to around six weeks.

As we have seen in other cases these types of ligament injuries are often hard to predict.  Some critics are saying that van Persie’s season may be done while others are saying he will likely be out until at least the end of January or February.  With the World Cup coming up sooner then expected, Van Persie may want to focus on preparing to be at full health this summer, but I would be surprised if he didn’t play again this season.

Obviously he wants to be out there just as much as anyone and with Bendtner out and Walcott remaining off of the roster for much of the season with injuries of his own, the Gunners badly need their star player to push the offensive side of the pitch.

Regardless of when van Persie comes back he will miss the November 29th match against Chelsea.  Van Persie is currently undergoing surgery in Amsterdam and is using the same specialist as Cristiano Ronaldo.  Ronaldo expects to return from his own similar injury by the end of the month, but expect van Persie to perhaps miss even more time then the Real Madrid star.  Van Persie was off to a strong 09 campaign and had just recently made our Weekly Top Performers list.
