Aston Villa was trucking along (and I even complimented their aggressive style of play) and then they get drilled by Arsenal 3-0 setting them back in their chase to jump up into the 3rd position on the Premier League Table. This indicates a few things about how Arsenal and AstonVilla are approaching their matches.
Arsenal scored 3 goals in the final 25 minutes of the game and took on the aggressive style of Aston Villa to beat them at their own game. If Arsenal continues down this path they may well be able to catch up to ManU and Chelsea in the League Championship race that has yet to feature anyone besides the teams from last year’s final match.
If Aston Villa has learned anything then they have learned that they can’t take a break and that break was the final 25 minutes of the match where they gave 3 pretty quick goals. In elite professional Soccer it’s hard to score ONE goal much less 3 and certainly not in 25 minutes. Breaks are NOT AN OPTION when the top of the table is so bunched up and the top 2 teams have stumbled.
Both of these clubs need to continue to capitalize on every opening in the points race that comes their way because they won’t get many and when they do they MUST have them. I mean…MUST have them.
On a parallel…this is the same reason why Manchester City and Liverpool are still struggling. They’ve had openings and haven’t been able to capitalize on them. Every time they catch a break nothing really happens and they fall farther and farther behind. Aston Villa could be at the heart of a great downward spiral or a monumental uprising that shows them right to the :Head of the Class”. This drubbing they just took either informs them or deflates them. We can only wait to see what happens, but their next match against Liverpool on Tuesday will speak volumes…I’m sure of it.
