You hear the term thrown around a lot. The Best Player in the World is not an easy title to hand over to anyone, but this last week Carlo Ancelotti coach of the first place Chelsea Blues admitted that his key forward, Didier Drogba, might in fact be one of the best all around players in the world.
Now those were not the Italian manager’s exact words (very close though), but the great coach did admit that Drogba is so valuable to the Blues squad that he would not think of exchanging him for any player in the entire world.
Now of course Chelsea currently isn’t allowed to transfer any players over to their squad for the next year, but even if they could replace the star with any great player Ancelotti would have serious second thoughts. Here is what the manager had to say about his leading goal scorer:
I have never played with a stronger striker than Didier. Filippo Inzaghi at Milan was a smart guy, Andriy Shevchenko was strong, but not in the air, Hernan Crespo, Alessandro del Piero – Didier is different to them all. I think he is one of the best in the world right now. I would put him alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fernando Torres, and Samuel Eto’o but I would not swap him for any of them.
Drogba, who has scored 5 goals this season going into last week, has also been titled a team leader by Ancelotti which many fans of the Premier League find interesting because of the forward’s prima donna reputation. But Ancelotti dispels these rumors and insists Drogba is a leader for the club on the pitch with his actions more so then his words.
Regardless what you think of Drogba and Chelsea you must admit that it seems to be working for the Blues so far this season. World’s best or not, Chelsea is a serious contender for best squad in the world this season.
