2009 WPS Power Rankings (07/01)
Last Week’s Ranking in Parenthesis…
- Los Angeles Sol (1): The Sol aren’t even making the inaugural season of MLS sporting for the fans. They won two more games last week to bring their total to 10, and they have only one loss and so far ceded only 5 goals.
- Boston Breakers (3): The Breakers looked smart at Harvard Field, playing tactically crisp defense and blanking the dangerous Freedom attack. I still think they are mediocre, but I have to admit they have grit.
- Saint Louis Athletica (4): SLA had a good week, although they lost a tough battle @ home to the talented Sol. They got over their disappointment though by besting Sky Blue in an equally hard-fought game.
- Washington Freedom (2): The Freedom fall the farthest this week after losing a match in which they failed to score against the Breakers. They are now 4-4-4, which is appropriate because I think they epitomize mediocrity.
- Sky Blue FC (5): Sky Blue dropped a home game to Saint Louis Athletica last week, but I can’t drop them because (A) they looked decent in the loss, (B) they are still better than #6 and #7, and (C) all of the above.
- FC Gold Pride (6): I am bringing STO Power Rankings Rules to PLTO this week by refusing to move the Pride because they didn’t play this week. I would not have likely moved them anyways, but it’s fun to cross-promote.
- Chicago Red Stars (7): What is happening to this once-promising team? CRS didn’t just get smoked 4-0 @ the HDC by the dominant Sol, but they also looked like they couldn’t care less. Where is the heart? Where is the desire? Where is the defense? Could their manager’s seat be heating up already? I doubt it, but fans must be growing impatient.

I have no arguments with your rankings, nicely done!
But I do have a correction: Since when does Sol play in the MLS…the only women’s team on the men’s side? It’s WPS.
