2009 WPS Power Rankings (06/24)
Last Week’s Ranking in Parenthesis…
- Los Angeles Sol (1): Another week, another goal for Marta, and (yet) another win for the Sol. They have twice as many wins as #2, and they have only given up 4 goals all season. They are the undisputed #1 squad.
- Washington Freedom (3): The Freedom are on a tear, winning another game (this time on the road). While their defense is still a little weak, their offense is the league’s best, so I think they will keep rising in ’09.
- Boston Breakers (4): The Jekyll & Hyde Breakers won on the road and tied at home, so they move up this week. They are the most “average” team in the league, yet they continue to earn some very promising results.
- Saint Louis Athletica (2): Yikes! A heartbreaking loss @ home has SLA falling two spots this week. While their defense is strong, their offense looks anemic. But, they have only played a league low # of games (10).
- Sky Blue FC (7): The Jersey Girls make the biggest move up the rankings this week after a convincing home win. While their O still lacks luster, their D is keeping them in games. They must improve on the road though.
- FC Gold Pride (6): If only Gold Pride didn’t have to play the Sol, they would be having a darn good year. But, Marta’s squad has their #, and they lead the league in two bad categories: Ls and neg. goal differential.
- Chicago Red Stars (5): What happened to CRS? They started the season with so much promise, but they have been terrible @ home (they lost again @ Toyota Park this week) and on the road (where they also lost). They are now on the bottom of the league table and the PLTO Power Rankings. I hope they turn it around.
