Team Overview: The Wolves have had one of the weirdest names (and logos) since 1877 when they were an original member of the Football League. While they had great success in the 1950’s (three titles, four FA Cups), they have been poor in recent decades. But, they finished on top in the second tier in 2009 and are now back in the bigs.
Top Performers: The Wolves were led by Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who was the squad’s MVP with 25 goals and 5 assists. Well, Michael Kightly also could be considered an MVP candidate with 8 goals and 19 assists. Then again, Wayne Hennessey could also be the MVP for the team with only 0.94 GAA. I guess they had multiple MVPs in ‘09.
Highest Highs: The Wolves scored a whopping 80 goals this year. They also won a league best 27 matches and featured the players with the most goals and assists. They coasted to the title, winning seven straight games at one point. They were easily the best in the league, and now will look to improve and compete in the Prem in 2010.
Lowest Lows: The Wolves did have a bad New Year’s hangover, winning only one match (and losing five) in January and February combined. Over that span, they ceded 16 goals and appeared to be falling apart. But, they regained their composure and finished the season strong to secure their place in one of the world’s top leagues.
Future Outlook: The Wolves are the strongest of the promoted clubs, and they have a great offense. But, their two attacking stars will still need more help on the attack portion of the pitch. The defense needs to tighten up as well. Their defense wasn’t actually very good last year. All in all, they should enjoy their promotion, but get ready for battle.
